Phillip Rex Bergfield died in the service of the United States on July 3rd 1971.
He was serving as a Captain in the US Army, assigned to Battery A, 4th Battalion 77th Artillery as a Cobra helicopter pilot.
He died while providing fire support to Army ground units in Thua Thien Province, Vietnam, when his helicopter collided in mid-air with another helicopter.
