Married to classmate Bill Granger.
After graduation, both Lynn and Bill attended and graduated in 1969 from Eastern Illinois University earning degrees in business education and business marketing, respectively. Both were members of Greek organizations and served as officers and committee chairpersons.
After college, Bill worked at McDonnell Douglas; they married in December of 1969. One month later, Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood until October, 1970, then received his orders for Vietnam where he stayed on duty until October of 1971. After his early out, he returned to the U.S. and was offered the opportunity to become a State Farm Insurance Agent in Bethalto, IL, where he has been since 1972.
Lynn taught business education at Collinsville High School for one year, sixth grade at Dorris School for one year and North Junior High for three years. After those five years, Lynn temporarily resigned from the teaching profession. Two daughters later, Lynn returned to substitute teaching in several area school districts, taught adult night school for Lewis and Clark, and taught business for two years at Metro East Lutheran High School in the mid 1980?s.
She had a short stint at The Limited in downtown St. Louis which attributed to in-state tuition for the eldest daughter?s education at the University of Missouri for one year. She earned her nursing degree from SIUE in 1997. The younger daughter attended Quincy University for one year on a volleyball scholarship and earned a business degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1999. She joined the same Greek sorority as Lynn.
In 1998, Lynn chose to update her education and became a student at SIUE, earning a master?s degree. In 2000 immediately after graduation, she was interviewed and hired for a business education position at Hazelwood East High School where she remained until retirement in 2009. During that time, both daughters married awesome men. Both daughters have a son. The boys are very dear to Lynn and Bill. Lynn keeps the elder grandson two days per week; however, he is ready for nursery school this fall (2013). The elder son in law has his own roofing, siding, guttering business in our area, and the younger son in law is a corporate manager. Mary Lynn is a nurse for a dermatologist in Chesterfield, MO, and Sara is an associate buyer for women?s high-end shoes for Brown Shoe Company in Ladue, MO.
Lynn?s father passed away in 1961; her mother in 2001. Bill?s father passed in October, 2011, and his mother is living in Collinsville. Lynn and Bill?s siblings are all living in the immediate area.
Bill and Lynn have enjoyed socializing with high school and college friends and meeting new ones along the way. Renewing friendships has been so much fun?for example, Pat Karnes Berry and Lynn reunited in 2005 at the monthly ?65 Chic night at Alfonzo?s. Since then they have had all kinds of adventures (see Pat?s biography)!
Bill and Lynn have had many travel adventures together and with friends. They feel very blessed with the life God has mapped out for them. There is so much more to share and so little space left on this page. Let?s close with a tribute to the awesome members of the Class of 1965; we are a special group!!
